Thoughts on SF&F Shows Old and New and Writing Progress

I only recently watched the dresden Files...

I first heard bestselling author Jim Butcher talk about how he created his Dresden Files Series in college a few years ago, while at a conference… It had a lot to do with his professor telling him how important it was to write an outline and to create a fact sheet about every character…. He ignored the professor’s advice semester after semester. Almost out of spite to proveshe was wrong one day he wrote an outline and the details for his story idea. His professor loved it. “What do I do next?” he asked. “Keep doing it…” So, over something like two weeks after outlining the first book of the Dresden Files, he outlined 20 novels in the Dresden Files Series.

At the time he also shared how important the television show was to his sales; even though, it was cancelled after 90 days on the Sci Fi Channel… Thanks to streaming services, I watched the Dresden Files and liked the episodes a lot and now understand why his book sales spiked forever after.

This week I binged three times Avatar: The Last Airbender’s 8 episode season. I was a fan of the original series and watched the movie, which critics hated. Oh, I understood a lot of the criticism… So, I wasn’t sure what I’d think of the new series.

Then again, I’ve now binged watched it three times, as I said. So, yes, I like it—and want the rest the story.. If you’ve never seen the Last Airbender, it’s worth watching—it wasn’t like watching a kid’s show—and still isn’t to me. It’s just great story telling and it’s epic, which is a winning combination for me.

In other news, thank you everyone for checking out my first Kickstarter, which came in 300% over goal. Knight of the Broken Table and Changeling Knight are coming out in revised editions shortly and Knight’s Blood will come out after I do a couple of tuckerizations, add the backer’s appreciation page, and the galley goes through the proofing process. The Kickstarter’s made wonderful launch for the new book and the entire Knights Tower Series. I’ll begin sending out the back bonuses and more about a week from now.

Another milestone, I’ve finished the latest draft of my forthcoming novel Bigfoot and the Four Horsemen, Book Three of The Apocalypse Knot. It’s now in the hands of my editor and we’ll see where we go from there. I can always hope for minor changes and edits, but I never know. I’m looking forward to commisioning the coverart in the near future, too.

So, interested in a free story? Check out my novella, Dragon’s Curse.
